Governor Darius Ishaku has expressed happiness that no case of death has been recorded from cases of Covid -19 pandemic in the State. He said it is a great feat for the state to have no mortality as the battle against the vicious disease ranges on with hope of the possibility of a vaccine soon.
Governor Ishaku who spoke positively according to the interim reports of the State Technical Committee on Covid-19 at the Government House Jalingo, attributed the success to life by the proactive measures adopted by the State Government. He commended the Director General, National Center for Disease Control (NCDC), Northeast Development Commission, Access bank, security operatives for their various support and appropriate contributions towards flattening the curve of the deadly disease in the state.
Ishaku encouraged Tarabans to obey simple Covid-19 protocols which include wearing of face mask, washing of hands and maintaining social distance.
Earlier, State Commissioner of Health, Dr. Innocent Vakkai who is also the Chairman of the State Technical Committee on covid-19, stated that out of the ninety-five affected persons, they have track records of achievements to include sensitization of the public, establishment of testing centers in Jalingo and Takum and establishment of dedicated call centers of Covid-19 cases, establishment of bed centers at the Specialist and Federal Medical Center, renovation and rehabilitation of one hundred bed Centers at the NYSC Camp at Sibre and others.
The Commissioner however disclosed poor compliance on the wearing of face mask and other Covid-19 protocols and lack of intensive care unit as challenges of the Committee.
The Taraba State Committee on Covid-19 made up of twenty-four members with the task of sensitising the public on the dangers of the pandemic was inaugurated on 26th March 2020.
