Taraba Governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku yesterday delivered his stand on peace with a visitation to Chunku Community in Wukari Local Government Area and called on all those who fled their communities due to the crisis in Southern Taraba to return.
The purpose of the Governor’s visit was to establish a lasting peace in the community and in line with that a security post will be manned jointly by the military and the police to ensure that the rescue vision for a lasting peace is achieved.
Chunku, a community previously co-habited by the Tiv and Jukun people was deserted in the wake of the crisis between them.The community is of strategic importance to peace in Southern Taraba in a significant way.
Ishaku gave his assurance that his administration will continue to do much more to uplift the State in the area of infrastructural development if the people agree to live together in peace.
Also, after an inspection of the Wukari-Tsokundi road project constructed by his administration, Governor Ishaku said he was elated with the quality of work being done on the road as it is strategic to the economy of the State, particularly Wukari, Donga and Ibi Local Government Areas.
Due to the damages of the crisis on agriculture and the economy of the state as a whole, the road will boost transportation of agricultural produce from the farm gates in the areas to markets everywhere in the country.
