Wife of Taraba Governor and CEO of Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba (HAFT), Anna Ishaku has called on her fellow state citizens particularly wives of Taraba State House of Assembly and wives of Local Government Chairmen to key into the commitment of flushing out drugs substances abuse in the state. She said it is best when collective efforts is combined to contain drugs and substance abuse in the society.
Barr. Anna made this assertion today at the occasion of the Recreational Day of Hope Health Center, Jalingo, a subsidiary of her foundation and a drop-in center for drug and substance abuse. While celebrating with the drug free clients of the center, Anna lamented that there is still an alarming rate of increasing cases on drugs and substance abuse by youths in the state. She commended the partnership of Taraba State Ministry of Health, public office holders, stakeholders and spirited individuals for zero tolerance against drugs and substance abuse and also those who have offered assistance towards the construction of the Rehabilitation center at Specialist Hospital, Jalingo.
In her welcome address, Nurse Suvoh Adamu, a staff of the center appreciated the determination of Anna Ishaku in the fight against drugs.
Earlier, in his presentation on drug abuse stigma, causes and remedy, Benjamin Sanda, Psychologist of the center said the best way to bring abusers back to normalcy was through love and not stigmatising them. Also another staff of the center, Nurse Dooshima highlighted on medical effects of substance abuse.
Jude Samson, a former drug addict explained how his life was heading to self destruction until the intervention of rehabilitation of the center.
Over forty drug addicts in Jalingo, State capital of Taraba have denounced involvement in the intake of drugs related activities.
The event was attended by Chief Medical Director Specialist Hospital Jalingo, Alex Maiangwa, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Ebenezer Apake, Commandant National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Jadi Sulaiman, Chief Executive Officer, Reformed Drugs and Substance Abuse Initiative (REDSAI), Bello Bolyam and Chairperson International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA), Taraba state chapter, Efioma Ogbachukwu amongst others.
