Having monitored with keen interest the humanitarian and philanthropic activities of the Speaker of Taraba State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, PhD the United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) has appointed him an international peace advocate.
The United Nations Positive Livelihood Award Centre (UN-POLAC) is an international autonomous institution, established in the year 2001 with the UN and UNESCO, following General Assembly Resolution declaring 2001-2010 as a decade of peace and non-violence.
Its mandate is to enhance the effectiveness of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and UNESCO culture of peace project, particularly the maintenance of peace and security and the restoration of human dignity.
Therefore, in a letter nominating/appointing Rt. Hon. Joseph Albasu Kunini, PhD as an international peace advocate, signed by UN-POLAC’s Director General, Professor Halo B. Eton, stated that the former possesses special qualities and role model of an international peace advocate, hence the prestigious award.
Part of the appointment letter read, “As part of the event for the celebration, there will be appointment/presentation of certificates and awards as International Peace Advocate to individuals of proven integrity who exhibit the ideals of living for the sake of others and commit themselves to promoting universal moral values, strong family life, social harmony, inter-religious and ethnic cooperation and the culture of peace.
“In addition to acknowledging these special qualities, the appointment encourages these individuals to be role models in community service and peace making.
“In view of the foregoing, the trustees of POLAC recognize that you exemplify these and wish to convey you their decision to appoint you an International Peace Advocate.
“As an International Peace Advocate, you can be called upon for peace making, conflict resolution and other activities that encourage peace and positive living in line with the best international practices.

The presentation of certificates and paraphernalia is slated for Saturday, 24th April, 2021 in Lagos.
Recall that the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) had earlier conferred on the Speaker an award of Recognition for his “Commitment to the Well-being of Refugees and other Persons Displaced by the Crisis in the Region.”
