Wife of Taraba State Governor Anna Darius Ishaku has extended her advocacy campaign on Gender Base Violence to southern part of the state.

The Governor’s wife accompanied by wives of top government functionaries, FIDA, Commissioner women and child development and principal staff of Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba took the crusade to the Aku Uka palace in Wukari graced by the chairmen of Southern Taraba and the coordinator Yangtu special development area.

Mrs anna Ishaku lamented the alarming rate of physical violence, psychological, sexual assault, emotional violence and many other factors hence the need to intensify campaign to the grassroots and employ para legal services who will feed her foundation with reports on GBV for appropriate disciplinary measures.

Rolling out the purpose of the advocacy visit, the monitoring and evaluation officer Hope Afresh Foundation Taraba Mrs. Sarah Ibi presented chat indicating how prevalence on gender base violence is on the high rate in Taraba particularly sexual assault and domestic violence against women a development she said need collective effort to stem the tide

The Aku Uka of Wukari his royal highness Dr Shekarau Masa Ibi kuvyon 11 and the chief of Ibi alhaji Abubakar Salisu Danburam unanimously welcome the campaign on Gender Base Violence pledging the support of the traditional council to curbing the menace

The traditional rulers expressed with dissatisfaction the dying culture, values and traditions of the people of the area with determination to turn tables around by rejuvenating the value system of the African culture which is characterise with decency, respect for elders and constituted authority and many other virtues.

Earlier the chairman of Wukari local government area who spoke on behalf of his colleagues from the southern zone described the visit as timely and a step at the right direction pledging their readiness to continue with the campaign at the grassroots for zero gender base violence against women.

The event witnessed contributions and questions from participants at the occasion.
